At the Motor Trader Independent Dealer Awards, we have are a shortlisted finalist in the following categories; UK Independent Dealer of the Year (Premium Cars), Fastest Growing Dealer of the Year, and the UK Independent Dealer Customer Care Award (50+ vehicles).

We have also been shortlisted in two categories at the Motor Trader Industry Awards, including the Customer Care Award (Independent), and Used Car Retailer of the Year (under 100 vehicles).

The announcements build on our continued awards success, which has also seen us become a finalist at the Automotive Management Awards earlier this year, and in the Derbyshire Business Awards for outstanding growth.

Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96.

With respect for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Baytree Cars will be CLOSED on Monday 19th September. This is a mark of respect for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and to enable our team members the opportunity to pay their respects. We will reopen as normal on Tuesday 20th September.

Baytree announces sponsorship agreement with Burton Albion Football Club

The deal will see the Baytree brand appearing around the Pirelli Stadium including on ground boards, in matchday programmes and the sponsorship of one of Burton’s league games during the 2022/23 season.

With Baytree’s recently refurbished showroom in Derby already serving clients in Staffordshire, it made perfect sense to formalise a deal for an increased presence at the Pirelli Stadium.

We are delighted to have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Outstanding Growth Category of the East Midland’s Chamber Derbyshire Business Awards.

The award recognises organisations that have achieved exceptional levels of growth in sales, profit, market share, jobs and/or international trade over the past 12 months.

The announcement follows our achievement in making it as a finalist in Automotive Management’s AM Awards earlier this year, in the Used Car Dealer of the Year category.

Our new showroom is now open!

We are delighted to announce the opening of our newly expanded and refurbished Derby showroom following a £250,000 investment.

The refurbishment work, which has taken around six months to complete, includes a high-tech reception area, private dealing rooms, and a complete showroom refit, including new flooring, lighting, and an additional 50% floor space for the display of even more prestige and supercars, allowing up to twenty to be on display at any one time.

The investment also includes additional storage facilities allowing us to increase our on-site stock holding of luxury vehicles from 80-120, all available for immediate purchase.

Introducing our Management Team

As part of our series highlighting the people behind Baytree, we are pleased introduce you to our senior management team, Chris McDermott, Stephen Pinchbeck, and Chris Astle.

Chris McDermott is Baytree’s Founding Director who established the business some 15-years ago following a 15-year career working in the motor industry. His passion for cars, and personal service inspired him to set up Baytree to offer the very best client experience possible. Chris has now taken up a brand ambassador role focused on managing key client relationships, and promoting Baytree within the wider community, and business networks.

Co-owner, Stephen who joined the business 4 years ago, brings with him a wealth of broad commercial experience following a successful 30-year career running businesses in a variety of sectors, including food ingredients and commercial property. His vast experience of running businesses is now focused on taking Baytree to the next level in its drive to be one of the UK’s most successful independent motor dealers.

Completing the team, Managing Director Chris Astle joined the business in October 2021,Chris has spent the majority of his working life in the automotive industry, including 35 years within the BMW network where his BMW career commenced at Bridgegate Derby as Sales Manager progressing to Head of Business before venturing on his own, owning and running his own BMW dealerships Astle BMW in Lincolnshire  over a successful 10-year period. Following the sale of the business, in 2008 he returned to Stratstone Derby BMW as Head of Business before retiring from his position last year.

“My role includes the sourcing of vehicles to broaden the choice of cars available, reacting to customer demand and market conditions, developing the team, focusing on customer retention and loyalty and developing the aftersales operation.

How the used prestige and performance car market is changing

The prestige and performance car market is an exciting and fast-paced place to be and has seen phenomenal growth over the last 2 to 3 years.

Whilst new car sales are down in terms of volume, many car manufacturers, such as Bentley and VW have just reported their best year in terms of profit margins. With the price of a new car now averaging around £25K, this is driving an uptake in the used car market, including the prestige and performance car sector.

The average change cycle of these cars is every 18 months and there is a lot of choice on the market for those looking to buy a used performance car. What is important, however is to know what you are buying and to have an exit plan in place for when you want to move a vehicle on.

Firstly, the importance of buying the right specification for the model you are considering buying cannot be understated. This will have a significant impact on its potential re-sale value. For example, the Sports Chrono is a must-have package on any Porsche. Secondly, look for a model that not only has a high specification, but also low mileage. This will help it to hold value further down the line. Thirdly, look at previous ownership and car service history. And never, ever buy on colour alone!

My top picks for those models that are guaranteed to hold their value right now are the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Ferrari 488, which is powered by the most powerful V8 engine in the company’s history, meaning it has strong residual value. The Porsche has held a steady re-sale value of around £100K for the past 5 years now, so it is a secure way of ensuring a return, should you want to move the vehicle on.

People have several reasons for deciding to buy or sell prestige and performance cars. For some it may be a second vehicle and for others purchases can be seasonal. How they buy is also changing. Online car dealing has risen by 32% since the pandemic and at Baytree we have had to adapt to these trends by introducing an online showroom to our website, which allows visitors to view the full specification of any of our vehicles, finance options available, and reserve the car online all from the comfort of their own home.

I predict the pace of development for electric cars will slow off over the next 2 years at which point we will see an influx of hydrogen models hitting the market.

I would always recommend doing your research first. Consider the specification of the vehicle very carefully before a purchase, as this could have a big impact on its future value. For example, has it got the right overall specification?

Adam Le’Gallienne joins us as Sales Executive alongside Steve Patterson who takes on the Senior Sales Executive role.

Steve, who describes himself as a ‘petrol head’, is a stalwart of the motor trade having spent his entire 47-year career working across every sector of the industry, from motor finance to running the UK’s largest Lotus dealership.
